Something I felt worth making it to my blog from CNN IBN
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has objected to the Supreme Court’s order asking all states and union territories to introduce legislation within three months to make registration of marriage compulsory in all communities.
Khalid Rashid, member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, said the judgment interferes with his community’s personal law. Rashid told CNN-IBN that the community keeps record of weddings and the Supreme Court order was “unwanted hindrance”.
Just trying to make sense of the term “hindrance” here… Marriages are registered in few days time after the rituals and this is done at a panchayath or village office. This must not be bringing any sort of hindrance to the function as such.
Its true that marriages are private affairs, but its also essential for the government to track events such as marriages for many a reasons and my Hindu brothers are doing it already.
Even me, being Christian did register mine as many a times we might need official records as proof.
So the only “hindrance” I could see is the “shame” when you try to register your marriage multiple times J
After all, when the prime judicial bunch in your country puts on a verdict such as this – which is intent to help the system work well, you should adhere to that – no matter what religion you might practice. No religion is higher than humanity and principle is superior to a common goal for betterment.
