Nithari – the place India would love to get out of their map for good reasons. It was here, in a pretty decent house of a well known person in the area where the sequence of heinous crimes took place. More than the number of dead victims it’s the way how they were treated before and after the murder which is dreadful. Even Alfred Hitchcock can’t imagine something of this magnitude. So what’s happening to our society? Why we are having so many people with sex oriented mental disorders? The graph of sex crimes in India is always growing – as fast as our population itself. It was not that back when a famous agency has revealed a shocking survey result that every 1 child out of two is abused either mentally or physically. Where is India heading to?
The reason is our attitude about a proper sex education system. When Vyathsayan wrote “Kamasutra” it was with good intention to teach one the importance of one’s sex life and to help them to make it better and enjoyable. But still sex is three letter Taboo word for many of the Indians. At least they would show it as if it is one. I won’t be surprised if I see a person leading a non-prostitute rally, enjoying in a brothel at night!!! Come on give me a break… how many of us have not enjoyed a “decent” dirty joke or a comment in our friend circle or at our work place. Before saying NO… just think again! So all these “ethical” show offs are only at our skin level. Otherwise we wouldn’t have had so many sex crimes in our country. At least statistics don’t lie.
How many us won’t get embarrassed when our 5 year old kid comes and ask us “Dady… how was I born?” 95% of times we boo them away or make the poor kid to promise not to ask this again to anyone. He/She might not ask this anytime to you, but their curiosity will definitely make them to ask this to somebody or read it from some where or “see it” from somewhere. And most of the time they get it from the wrong sources. By the time a parent would realize its high time to teach their kid on this, they will no more be a kid and they might have already become a nymphomaniac or will be having some kind off disorder.
So when exactly we should start the sex education? I remember that in my 10th standard text book we did have a chapter on ‘Reproductive system” – but our teacher just took this subject in one session of 45 mins – that too once all the chapters are done with and had absolutely no other option to teach this as its part of their syllabus. You expect a kid to learn all about sex which I consider is an integral part of their life in just 45 mins? You better ask a mountain to move and wait for it to happen. We often “leave” them in confusion as to what is right and wrong. And you expect them to behave properly J
In my opinion, sex education should start from home at a very early stage of your life. I don’t expect a mother to take lecture on how a cesarean is performed to a 3 year old kid. We can start with teaching them the cleanliness of their private parts and as they grow up the important of their genital organs and so on. Our primary & higher education system should accommodate more time on teaching one the importance sex and what is wrong and what is right.
It’s a shame that even members of parliament or even ministers are correlating sex with western culture. It simply defy logic…They rate "Yoga" to replace sex education. No offense to yoga practitioners! Before you blame it on a medium like internet or “western” culture just look back at our system to see if we are putting justifiable effort on bringing awareness? It’s this lack of awareness which leads people to choose the one negative thing out of hundred positives things in a technology or culture. I am a parent and I would like my child to survive in a better community at least. Any difference of opinion???
